Set in 1960's Baltimore, the show is based on John Waters' 1988 movie of the same name, with a book by Marc O'Donnell. The story follows the fortunes of "pleasantly plump" Baltimore teenager Tracy Turnblad, who yearns to perform in the Corny Collins Dance Show.

Transformed overnight from outsider to teen celebrity, Tracy's next mission is to vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show.

Phill Jupitus stars as larger than life heroine Edna Turnblad, who must help her big-haired, big-hearted daughter Tracy, played by Chloe Hart, fulfill her destiny....if she can just leave the family apartment. Belinda Carlisle plays Velma Von Tussle, glamorous white supremacist and controller of the local TV station, who is out to thwart Tracy’s plans, and Sharon D. Clarke is Motormouth Mabel, celebrity DJ and owner of Baltimore’s biggest set of lungs!

Other principals, Verity Rushworth (Penny), Liam Tamne (Link Larkin), Adrian Hansel (Seaweed) and Raquel Jones (Little Inez) are joined by new cast members Tony Timberlake (Wilbur Turnblad), Nicola Brazil (Amber Von Tussle) and Gavin Alex (Corny Collins).

This smash-hit award-winning musical recouped its entire £3.5 million capitalization in a record-breaking 29 weeks at London's Shaftesbury Theatre. The show opened on October 30th, 2007 to universal critical acclaim and when on to win the 2008 Olivier Awards ‘Best Musical’, as well as ‘Best Actor in a Musical’ for Michael Ball, and ‘Best Actress in a Musical’ for Leanne Jones. The show has also won ‘Best Musical’ at the Evening Standard Awards, the Whatsonstage.com awards, the Critics Circle Awards and the Variety Club Showbiz Awards.
