Set in 19th century France, Les Miserables tells the story of Jean Valjean, a man who is sent to prison for 19 years for the simple crime of stealing a loaf of bread. Valjean breaks his parole and starts a "new life" with a "new name", free from crime and prison. He works his way up through society and becomes mayor of a small town. Meanwhile, Valjean is being hunted down by Javert, the policeman who has made his capture a lifelong obsession.

In October 2010, Cameron Mackintosh's award-winning production of Boublil and Schonberg's Les Miserables celebrated its 25th Anniversary in London and is now the world's longest running musical, having been seen by more than 60 million people worldwide in 42 countries and in 21 languages. This spectacular musical adaptation of Victor Hugo's humanitarian masterpiece continues to thrill audiences night after night.
